피고인은 스마트폰 채팅 어플리케이션인 ‘즐톡’을 통해 알게 되어 피고인의 집에 살고 있던 C를 통해 피해자 D(여, 19세)를 알게 되었고, 피해자 역시 정해진 거처가 없다고 하여 2014. 4. 21.경부터 인천 남동구 E건물 501호에 있는 피고인의 집에서 함께 생활하였고, 피해자로 하여금 안방을 사용하게 하였다.
